On the Video : Rollies and Cigars
So I have been digging Sark's newly dropped video for Rollies and Cigars on his No Pressure album.
Well the clip rolls off with Sark rolling in in a Rolls. The work has a smooth and uncluttered visual regimen. No visual baggage to disrupt the field of vision. The set feels surgical theatre like. Scrubbed free of the "germs" of too many sequences so the story can be told. Only here the op is about exposing Sark's journey thus far. In life. In music. At the zenith. Mountain top view revealed in camera angles and degrees.
I was struck by the halo of green light in which a sharply dark suited Sark moves and spits. Boredom? I guess. With white light. So Something new. Metaphor? Sure. Dude now has the green light to speed so no one can catch him. No pressure babe.
Of course the babes appear in this flick but they are clad. Coy. Discreet. Loudly absent. Yet inconspicously present. I love that. I am sick of the surfeit of mega super size almost fabric free rear(you know how we go in Africa
; no size) gyrations and objectification of our beauties. There is some sobriety here. Sark has been through his rites of passage alas.
Subliminal messages? Some. Now the craft is big business. No wonder he lands behind an officious desk. It is about equity. Deals. In ten years and some he has prised open the formula. The formula? Hardwork. Money. Power. Play. Independece. And then BOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMM: SARKCESS!
Another detail on hues. From green to red. Red soles of his shoes. Dude is bored with the standard fare as footwear soles go. And Yaw Scarface does justice with vintage unobtrusiveness.
But more detail. Sark's sartorial statements. Now its rimless shades. The Costellos have been dropped. Skin shedding. Serpent like. And more hues. The shades has hues shading away. And then the signet ring on the last finger. Like Malcolm X's. It appeared twice. Close-up. Sark the music revolutionary. I tried to be sure it was not just for the set. It seems it is not. Are we seeing a new Sark signature?
I am reminded by this video of 50Cent's Ryder Music. Arriviste. Fif rides through out in the Rolls. Sark has a spin on that obviously. Our modern cultural life has always been about syncopation. The ties that bind.
So the smoke wafted in the vid from the Cubanos. Sark is aware of his Mr. Clean Image. He provides a disclaimer. Wise. We need not get cancer after watching this piece. Peace.
This work of art has cross-generational appeal. I could watch it with my Momma Ama Otwiwa and not wince. Neat. I loved it.
Lets see what happens on the other vids off this album. No Pressure.
Henceforth the tag below will go with my Culture takes. And many in the works.
